At Davies Veterinary Specialists, we offer a complete range of advanced veterinary diagnostic imaging services to support referring veterinarians in delivering exceptional care. Our state-of-the-art facilities are designed to facilitate accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans for complex cases, ensuring seamless collaboration with veterinary professionals.

On-site advanced imaging and diagnostic testing including x-ray, ultrasound, MRI and CT scanning
During the diagnostic process your pet may need an x-ray or scan. We’re proud to have one of the country’s leading Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging departments, which provides a broad base of expertise in all aspects of this discipline. We also offer a radiographic reporting service for other veterinary practices, which provides a 24-hour turnaround time. This service is a great way for us to link with practices that refer to us and enables us to provide expert opinions before seeing your pet.
Our advanced imaging equipment allows us to investigate any area of the body, ranging from simple chest X-rays to detailed analysis of the brain and spinal cord using our MRI and CT scanners. With ultrasound, we can monitor the way blood flows through the heart and are able to view the internal structure of abdominal organs. This also allows us to take samples of abnormal looking tissue, helping us to reach the right diagnosis as promptly as possible.
Our facilities include:
- Two digital X-ray suites with Wireless D-EVO II detectors
- Two fluoroscopic (moving/real-time X-ray) units (one with digital subtraction for vascular studies)
- Two ultrasound (including colour-flow Doppler) units
- MRI and CT scanners
- Off-site access to nuclear medicine is also available.
Types of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Available at Davies Veterinary Specialists
MRI Scans for Pets
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is an essential tool for diagnosing complex neurological, musculoskeletal, and soft tissue conditions in pets. Using advanced technology, MRI produces detailed anatomical images without radiation exposure.
MRI scans allow veterinary specialists to pinpoint abnormalities and develop precise treatment plans. The procedure leverages radio waves to generate high-resolution images, making it invaluable for complex diagnoses referred by veterinarians.
Veterinary CT Scans for Advanced Diagnostic Imaging
Computed Tomography (CT) scans are indispensable for assessing pets’ internal organs, tissues, and bone structures. They provide highly detailed cross-sectional images, often enhanced with contrast dyes, to aid in identifying a wide range of conditions.
At Davies, we perform CT scans for pets under general anaesthesia to ensure precise imaging and pet safety, supporting veterinarians in diagnosing conditions such as fractures, tumours, and vascular anomalies.
Veterinary X-rays: Essential for Orthopaedic and Thoracic Diagnoses
X-rays remain a cornerstone of veterinary diagnostic imaging, offering clear insights into fractures, joint disorders, infections, and structural abnormalities. Modern digital X-ray technology at Davies ensures swift image acquisition and easy sharing with referring practices, enabling efficient collaboration and informed decision-making for orthopaedic and thoracic cases.
Veterinary Ultrasound: Non-Invasive Imaging for Soft Tissues
Ultrasound is a safe and versatile diagnostic tool for evaluating pets’ soft tissue structures, including abdominal organs and the heart. This non-invasive method provides real-time imaging, aiding in diagnosing gastrointestinal, cardiac, and reproductive conditions. Davies’ experienced sonographers work closely with veterinarians to interpret results promptly and accurately.
Veterinary Endoscopy: Minimally Invasive Diagnostics
Veterinary endoscopy allows for direct visualisation of internal structures such as the gastrointestinal tract, nasal passages, and airways. Equipped with a high-definition camera, this tool is vital for diagnosing and managing conditions that might otherwise require exploratory surgery. Endoscopy also enables biopsy collection and foreign object retrieval, reducing recovery times for referred cases.
Additional Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging Techniques
In addition to the core veterinary imaging modalities, Davies Veterinary Specialists offers advanced diagnostic options, including:
- Veterinary Nuclear Medicine Imaging: Utilises small amounts of radioactive material to evaluate organ function and detect anomalies.
- Veterinary Fluoroscopy: Provides dynamic, real-time imaging, particularly useful for evaluating a pet’s joint movement or swallowing function.
The Role of Diagnostic Imaging in Veterinary Medicine

From fractures and tumours to neurological disorders and cardiac conditions, imaging technologies at Davies provide the clarity required for precise treatment planning.
