Our EMS scheme allows UK and Republic of Ireland students to gain veterinary work experience of our referral practice, performing specialist small animal medicine and surgery at the highest level. Placements with us are very popular and we receive a large number of requests.
EMS placements are generally available in two week blocks, during which time the student will follow our veterinary specialists in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedic surgery, Soft Tissue surgery and Neurology. Exposure to the disciplines of Anaesthesia and Diagnostic Imaging will be achieved via the other services. Please note that this is an observing placement and is best suited for students in their final years. We do not expect students to assist with procedures, although from time to time we may ask them to do so.
In the middle weekend of the two week rotation the student will be expected to be available to attend emergency cases and rounds as directed.
We do not offer accommodation, although there are a number of guest houses and bed/breakfast establishments nearby.
The rotations start from 9am on the first Monday when a short induction with a member of the Training team will take place. The student will then join the timetabled clinical service. Subsequent days will begin at 8am.
For further information and to request a placement, please send a CV and a letter outlining your reasons for wanting to do a placement with us to EMS@vetspecialists.co.uk
