Clive Elwood graduated from Cambridge University in 1989 and completed an internship and residency at Liverpool University Veterinary School and the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, respectively. In 1995 he became a Diplomate of the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine, the first person trained outside of the USA to gain the American qualification.
Following a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Scholarship, he obtained a Masters degree in Immunology in 1995 and a PhD in 2000. He joined Davies Veterinary Specialists in 1998 to provide medical referral services. He was founding Chairman of the Small Animal Medicine Society which held its inaugural meeting in 2005 and was an Associate Editor of Journal of Small Animal Practice from 2006-2010. He is a member of the European Emesis Council.
He has been an examiner for the European and RCVS Diplomas in Small Animal Medicine and Chief Examiner for the RCVS Diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing. In 2007 he was elected to the Board of Management of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Companion Animals). Clive has lectured and published widely and maintains his clinical activity and interest in many areas of canine and feline internal medicine.
In 2009 he was awarded the BSAVA Melton Prize for meritorious contributions to small animal practice.
